The Gideons International
"Seeking to make the most of every opportunity"
"Who are the Gideons? Men and women drawn from the local Churches, who seek to obey our Lord's command to go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation and win men and women for the Lord Jesus Christ, by distributing copies of the Bible. Everytime your heart beats another copy of the Scriptures is given away. This is best done by placing the Scriptures in the 'traffic lanes of life'. You may have seen them in hotels and hospitals. You may recall the day when the Gideons appeared at an Assembly at your school and presented you with a copy of the New Testament and the Psalms - with a red cover outside to be read inside! The Gideons supply Scriptures to Residential Homes, waiting rooms, the police, nurses, firemen, cruise liners and to those detained in prison ... Where do they operate? There are Branches in virtually every country in the world except China and the Muslem states. The Gideon work continues to grow and expand. Our prayer is that the Lord will open these areas to His Word as He opened Eastern Europe 10 years ago. In the U.K. there are some 6,000 Gideons distributing a million Testaments and Bibles a year - mostly in schools and colleges. Here in Surrey we are blessed with admission to all the secondary schools. Why is it necessary? The Gideons firmly believe that in many amazing situations the Lord speaks to men and women and young people in their need and perplexities - of His great love, demonstrated in the life, death, resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the U.K. the Gideons use the N.I.V. but what makes the Gideon edition special is the 50 pages of very useful notes including suggested Daily Bible Readings, and also 'where to find help in time of need'. Praise the Lord that the result is that the Gideons receive many letters from those who testify to changed lives and transformed homes. On Saturday 28th April there will be an opportunity to listen to the 'New Horizons Choir' and to hear more about this work, at Stoneleigh Baptist Church. The Glade, Stoneleigh. Tea at 4.30 Meeting at 5.30. Please do join us if you are able to do so, you will be most welcome."
Is God saying something? (Deuteronomy 28:15ff) "If you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all His commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you. You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country. Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed. The fruit of your womb will be cursed and the crops of your land, and the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out. The Lord will send upon you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking Him." "Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes but you will eat none of it. Your donkey will be forcibly taken from you and will not be returned. Your sheep will be given to your enemies and no-one will rescue them." "The sights you see will drive you mad." Think about Foot and Mouth disease. Is God saying something to our country? We need to pray for our farmers this week.
